Technology... What does it mean for today's learners and educators?

As part of the first teaching tool, I found the following video on TeacherTube.  This video does not make a stance on whether techonolgy is changing teaching and learning for right or wrong, good or bad.  Rather, it reinforces the idea that technology is changing the world that we live in.  Whether we think it is good or bad does not matter.  As educators, we need to understand that since the world outside our classrooms is evolving, so must our classrooms and the way that we educate our students.  The video not only addresses the evolving technological world, but also shines light on the educational situation in the United States and it's future.

There are some shocking realities revealed in this video that raise concerns for this generation and future generations of learners.  Where do we go from here?  We know technology is quickly changing the world we live in, yet our classrooms mirror those from decades ago.  How do we keep up with this changing technolgy in our classrooms?  Even if this is possible, how do we use this technolgy to educate our students?  How do we educate teachers on this new technolgy?  Does this even matter if, by the time today's sophmores graduate, some or most of the information they have learned will be outdated?

These are just some of the many questions that are raised based on the truths in the video.  I'm not sure what the answers are to these or many other questions one may have.  All I know is that it is important that we are aware of the ever changing technological world and that we, as educators, need to be prepared to adjust the way we teach to accomodate the needs of future generations of learners, whether we like it or not.
